US Reportedly Considering Reduction of Military Assets in Europe, Raising NATO Concerns

Washington (HRNW)- A US media report has claimed that the United States is considering a significant reduction in some of its military assets currently deployed in support of NATO allies across Europe.

According to the report, Washington is evaluating plans to reduce the number of warplanes assigned to NATO missions in Europe by nearly one-third. The report also suggests that all eight aerial refueling tanker aircraft currently supporting operations in the region could be withdrawn.

Quoting two senior European officials, the report states that the number of aircraft used for maritime surveillance missions may also be reduced, potentially affecting Europe’s overall defense and monitoring capabilities.

The report further claims that the US is considering redeploying several key military assets to other regions. These assets reportedly include missile-equipped submarines, an aircraft carrier, a bomber squadron, as well as additional warplanes and naval vessels.

Defense analysts believe that if implemented, such a move could have significant implications for NATO’s military posture and strategic planning in Europe. However, no official confirmation or announcement has yet been made by US authorities regarding the reported plans.

The development comes at a time when European nations are increasing defense spending in response to ongoing tensions with Russia, the conflict in Ukraine, and a rapidly evolving global security environment.

Experts say that any reduction in the American military presence could encourage NATO member states to assume greater responsibility for their own defense and security needs.
