Tokyo (HRNW) – Japan has rejected allegations made by China and Russia that it is emerging as a “re-emerging superpower,” calling the claims baseless and politically motivated.
According to media reports, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a joint statement, accused Japan of accelerating its military buildup and posing a threat to regional peace and stability.
In response, Japan’s Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Masano Ozaki said at a press briefing that China should address concerns regarding its military activities, while Russia should end its invasion of Ukraine.
The statement comes amid already strained relations in the region. Japan’s ties with China deteriorated last November after Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi stated that Japan considers Taiwan a separate entity and warned that any Chinese use of force against Taiwan could threaten Japan’s survival, allowing Tokyo to exercise collective self-defense rights.
