Karachi (HRNW) – Former Project Director of the BRT Red Line project, Zamir Abbasi, who is currently in custody, has also come under the investigation radar of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). An Anti-Corruption Court has allowed NAB officials to record Zamir Abbasi’s statement in jail.
According to the court order, the jail superintendent has been directed to provide full cooperation to NAB officials and facilitate the recording of Zamir Abbasi’s statement.
NAB stated that Zamir Abbasi possesses important information and facts related to the ongoing investigations, which may assist authorities in further proceedings.
According to sources, NAB is investigating alleged illegal occupation of government and public land, corruption, and misuse of authority. The role of Board of Revenue officials and other individuals is also being examined as part of the inquiry.
The NAB investigations also include matters related to the Islamic Education Trust, Sehranpur, and Shipyard Housing Society, with further proceedings underway.
Zamir Abbasi is already on judicial remand in connection with the BRT Red Line project case. Investigations are continuing into alleged irregularities in the project, including allegations regarding an advance payment of Rs. 8.5 billion to a contractor.
NAB officials stated that the scope of the investigation is being expanded and statements of key individuals are being recorded to determine facts related to alleged financial irregularities and misuse of authority.
