Karachi (HRNW) – The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Commercial Banks Circle (CBC) Karachi has claimed to have uncovered an alleged illegal hawala/hundi network during an operation in Jodia Bazaar, Karachi, arresting two suspects and recovering more than Rs. 100 million in cash.
According to an FIA spokesperson, the operation was conducted under the special directions of FIA Karachi Zone Director Muntazar Mehdi and under the supervision of the Deputy Director, FIA Commercial Banks Circle Karachi, as part of an ongoing crackdown against illegal financial networks.
The FIA stated that the alleged main suspect Haris and one of his associates were taken into custody during the operation. Authorities claimed that digital evidence and handwritten ledgers were recovered from the suspects, containing records of alleged transfer of funds abroad through hawala/hundi channels without using the formal banking system.
According to the FIA, cash amounting to Rs. 100.5 million (Rs. 1 crore and 50 thousand) was also recovered during the raid and taken into official custody.
The FIA spokesperson said that a case is being registered against the suspects under relevant laws, while a comprehensive investigation has been launched to examine financial records, digital evidence, and identify other individuals allegedly linked to the network.
The agency stated that the scope of the investigation has been expanded to trace alleged facilitators, financial supporters, and other elements involved in the suspected illegal hawala/hundi operation.
The FIA reiterated its commitment to continuing action against financial crimes, money laundering, illegal money transfers, and unauthorized financial networks across the country.
