Karachi (HRNW) – Tensions have emerged between the Karachi Bar Association and police authorities following an alleged incident of misconduct at Gulbahar Police Station involving a former member of the Bar’s Managing Committee. Police officials have confirmed that SHO Gulbahar Rao Aslam has been suspended and demoted following the incident.
The Karachi Bar Association strongly condemned the alleged mistreatment and claimed that its former Managing Committee member was subjected to violence and inappropriate behavior at Gulbahar Police Station.
The Bar announced restrictions on the entry of police personnel into City Courts Karachi, stating that the ban would remain in place until an apology from the Inspector General of Sindh Police and action against the responsible officials.
The Karachi Bar stated that harassment, violence, and misuse of authority would not be tolerated, adding that there would be no compromise on the rule of law, citizens’ rights, and the dignity of the legal community. The association also demanded immediate action against the responsible police personnel.
Meanwhile, police authorities presented their version of events, stating that the matter was being portrayed one-sidedly and that the facts were different.
According to police sources, a lawyer had visited Gulbahar Police Station in connection with a matter involving a relative or client. Police said that during routine official work and amid public congestion at the station, the duty officer requested the lawyer to stand at an appropriate place. Police alleged that the lawyer responded in an inappropriate manner, leading to an argument with the duty officer.
Police further claimed that the lawyer entered the office of SHO Gulbahar Rao Aslam without permission and used inappropriate language against senior police officials. According to police, efforts were made to resolve the matter peacefully, but the situation escalated.
Police sources stated that several citizens present at the station witnessed the incident and raised concerns over the alleged behavior. Police officials emphasized that Sindh Police respects the legal fraternity and citizens’ rights but cannot allow harassment, intimidation, or interference in official duties.
The Karachi Bar Association President Aamir Waraich condemned the incident, announced a strike, and demanded legal action over the alleged mistreatment of lawyers.
Police authorities have called for an impartial investigation based on CCTV footage, eyewitness accounts, and available evidence to ensure that facts are brought before the public and no party faces injustice.
