Kyiv/Moscow (HRNW)- Ukraine has launched one of its largest drone attacks on Russia to date, reportedly targeting multiple regions with around 600 drones, leaving at least four people dead and several others injured.
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, 556 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight across various regions, including Crimea, the Black Sea, and the Sea of Azov, while another 30 drones were destroyed in the morning hours.
Officials in the Moscow region said that among the deceased was an Indian citizen working in Russia. Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov stated that a woman and two men were killed after a drone struck a private residence. Overall, Russian authorities said the attacks hit 14 regions, with more than 80 drones intercepted around Moscow alone, injuring 12 people.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said some drones fell near a construction site close to an oil and gas refinery, injuring workers, though refinery operations were not disrupted. He also confirmed damage to three residential buildings.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the strikes as a justified response, saying Russia continues to target Ukrainian cities and civilians, leaving Ukraine no choice but to retaliate.
Ukraine’s Defense Ministry claimed the operation was the largest drone strike on the Moscow region since the start of the war in 2022, stating that its strategy focuses on targeting Russian military infrastructure at long range.
Meanwhile, Russia continued its own strikes on Ukraine, with the Ukrainian Air Force reporting that 287 Russian drones were launched, of which 279 were shot down.
Efforts to establish a ceasefire between the two countries have so far failed, including a brief US-brokered truce that collapsed, leading to continued heavy exchanges of attacks between Moscow and Kyiv.
