Islamabad (HRNW)- In a major step aimed at preventing tax evasion in the bottled water sector, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to implement a strict electronic monitoring system for production units across the country.
According to the FBR, the entire production process will now be monitored through modern technology to ensure accurate collection of sales tax and improve transparency in the industry.
All bottled water companies have been directed to complete installation of the new monitoring system by June 15, 2026. Under the policy, companies will be required to install industrial barcode scanners, counting sensors, IP cameras, network video recorders, programmable controllers, LED displays, and uninterrupted power supply systems.
The FBR stated that production data will be directly transmitted to the authority through specialized production monitoring software. The system will enable automatic bottle counting through real-time object detection technology and will also help identify production levels, operational speed, and suspicious activities immediately.
Officials further clarified that all production records will be digitally stored and archived for potential legal action if required. The FBR also emphasized that no vendor will be allowed to install the system without prior approval from the authority.
In this regard, Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue have also been instructed to appoint focal persons for effective implementation and monitoring of the new system.
