Lahore (HRNW) – The Board of Revenue Punjab has taken a major step to eliminate unnecessary delays in land partition cases by directing all Deputy Commissioners to ensure strict implementation of Section 142-A of the Punjab Land Revenue (Amendment) Act 2026.
Under the new legal framework, Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars will no longer be allowed to delay land partition cases without valid reasons and will be required to decide such cases within the prescribed time period.
Key Points of the Punjab Land Revenue (Amendment) Act 2026:
1. Mandatory 60-Day Deadline:
Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars must issue a final decision in land partition applications within 60 days from the filing of the application or commencement of relevant proceedings.
2. Restrictions on Unnecessary Adjournments:
The law discourages unnecessary delays and repeated adjournments. A single adjournment will not exceed three days, and costs may be imposed on parties responsible for avoidable delays.
3. Automatic Transfer to Collector:
If a revenue officer fails to decide the case within 60 days, the case will automatically be transferred to the Collector (Assistant Commissioner/Sub-Division) for further action.
4. Action Against Negligent Officers:
Officials responsible for unnecessary delays or failure to comply with the law may face proceedings under the PEEDA Act 2006.
The initiative aims to speed up land partition proceedings, provide timely relief to citizens, and improve transparency and efficiency in the provincial revenue system.
