Jaranwala/Faisalabad (HRNW) – Anwar Bibi, an elderly Pakistani woman from Jaranwala, Faisalabad, who had been imprisoned in Saudi Arabia in connection with a drug smuggling case, has died while in custody, according to her family.
Family members said Anwar Bibi had travelled to Saudi Arabia after allegedly being offered a “free Umrah” package. They claim she was unaware that narcotics had allegedly been placed in her luggage and insist that she was innocent of the charges brought against her.
According to her relatives, she remained hopeful for her release throughout her imprisonment, but passed away before she could regain her freedom.
The case has drawn attention to the risks associated with fraudulent travel offers and the importance of ensuring that travelers personally inspect and secure their luggage before international travel. However, the circumstances surrounding the case and the allegations made by the family have not been independently verified.
