Kyiv (HRNW)- Russia launched a massive missile attack on Kyiv, including a hypersonic “Oryzhnik” missile, killing at least 4 people and injuring more than 100.
According to the foreign news agency AFP, Russia bombed the Ukrainian capital overnight, during which several loud explosions were heard and citizens took refuge in underground metro stations to save their lives.
After the attacks, fires broke out in different areas of the city, while several buildings were destroyed or severely damaged. The affected buildings include residential buildings, schools, universities, museums, theaters, markets and shopping centers.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the attack an act of extreme madness and said that Russia had targeted civilian infrastructure. He said that Ukraine urgently needs more air defense systems.
The Russian military has confirmed that a nuclear-capable hypersonic Oryzhnik missile was used in the attack. However, Moscow denied targeting civilian areas, claiming that the attacks were carried out on Ukrainian military and intelligence centers.
Damage was recorded in all districts of Kyiv, while about 30 buildings were completely or partially destroyed. The attacks also partially damaged the buildings of the Ukrainian cabinet and the foreign ministry.
According to reports, the National Art Museum of Kyiv, the Philharmonic Hall and several historical buildings were also hit by the attacks. A new museum, established to commemorate the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear accident, was completely destroyed.
The residence of the Albanian ambassador was also damaged during the attacks, prompting Albania to summon the Russian ambassador in protest.
In addition, the offices of German broadcasters ARD and DW were also affected, while the World Health Organization stated that its offices in Kyiv were damaged by debris from the Russian attacks.
According to reports, missile attacks were also carried out in other Ukrainian regions including Kharkiv, Cherkasy and Dnipropetrovsk, where dozens more people were injured.
