Court Order on Bhojshala Complex Triggers Dispute Over Religious Status

Dhar (HRNW)- A recent decision by the Madhya Pradesh High Court regarding the historic Bhojshala complex in Dhar district has sparked renewed political and religious debate in India.

According to Indian and international media reports, the court observed in its ruling that the site, locally known to some as the Kamal Mullah Mosque and to others as Bhojshala, is associated with a Hindu deity, following which it permitted Hindu worship activities at the location.

The Bhojshala complex has long been a contested site, with Hindu groups claiming it was originally a temple dedicated to Goddess Vagdevi, while members of the Muslim community state that it has functioned as a mosque where they have offered prayers for generations.

Following the court’s decision, reports indicate that Hindu groups gathered at the site and performed religious rituals, while members of the Muslim community have expressed strong disagreement with the ruling and intend to challenge it in the Supreme Court of India.

Local Muslim representatives have stated that the decision affects their long-standing religious practices, while legal and historical debates continue over the interpretation of archaeological findings used in the case.

Some political reactions have also emerged, with critics arguing that disputes over historic religious sites in India have become increasingly sensitive in recent years.
