Italy Suspends Military Cooperation Agreement with Israel Over Regional Situation

Rome (HRNW)- Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced the suspension of military cooperation with Israel, marking a significant shift in defense relations between the two countries.

According to media reports, the Prime Minister stated that the renewal of the military agreement between Italy and Israel was nearing completion but will now not proceed.

She said that due to the current regional situation, the government has decided to cancel the automatic renewal of the defense cooperation agreement with Israel.

The agreement, signed in 2016, included collaboration on military equipment and research and required renewal every five years to remain in effect.

It is worth noting that the decision came after Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani’s visit to Lebanon, where he described Israeli bombings targeting civilians as completely unacceptable.
