Ankara (HRNW)- Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is attempting to portray Turkey as a new enemy amid escalating regional tensions.
Speaking during a meeting with editors at the headquarters of the Turkish state-run Anadolu Agency, Fidan stated that Israel requires an external adversary for its political survival and, after Iran, is now attempting to present Turkey as an “enemy state.”
He said Turkey believes that no country should interfere in the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that maritime movement should remain free and that no transit fees should be imposed.
The Turkish Foreign Minister also called for the establishment of a regional security alliance to build trust among neighboring countries.
Commenting on the worsening regional situation, Fidan said developments in Lebanon reflect what he described as Israel’s expansionist policies, warning that the crisis could escalate into a wider regional conflict.
The statement comes after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced legal action involving 35 Israelis, including Netanyahu, over allegations related to targeting an international flotilla.
