Heavy vehicles wreak havoc in Karachi as five killed in a day, says PTI lawyer

KARACHI: (HRNW) A senior leader of the Insaf Lawyers Forum Karachi, Advocate Hasnain Ali Chohan, has expressed grave concern over the rising number of fatal traffic accidents caused by heavy vehicles in the city, stating that a “killing spree” against citizens continues while the government has failed to act effectively.

He said that five people were killed in a single day after being run over by dumpers and tankers, including two real siblings, terming the incident deeply tragic and alarming.

Mr Chohan stated that Karachi’s traffic management system has completely collapsed, allowing heavy vehicles to move unchecked across the city, resulting in the loss of precious human lives on a daily basis.

Citing statistics, he said that more than 800 people lost their lives in traffic accidents in Karachi during 2025, with a significant number of deaths attributed to heavy vehicles. He added that the situation has shown no improvement in the first four months of 2026, as citizens continue to fall victim to such incidents.

Criticising the Sindh government, he said it had failed in its fundamental responsibility to ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property.

He demanded an immediate ban on the entry of heavy traffic into the city, strict enforcement of traffic laws, and swift action against those responsible to prevent further loss of lives.
