Karachi (HRNW)- The Chairman of the Higher Education Commission Pakistan Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar visited the University of Karachi on Tuesday. After assuming the charge of the HEC Pakistan in Islamabad in February 2026, it was his first visit to the metropolis.
The KU’s Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi along with the Registrar Professor Dr Imran Ahmad Siddiqui welcomed the HEC head Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad, in-charge HEC Regional Director Suleman Ahmed and others.
Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad also met the deans of various faculties during the meeting which was held at the VC Secretariat. The KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi briefed the visiting team about the progress and development on the campus. He informed the visitors that the KU has received a new highest ranking among the global universities and it is focusing on research, improving administrative skills to get further better rankings.
He also lauded the rich experience and academic achievements of the Chairman of HEC Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar and expressed that both the public and private sector’s higher education institutions will learn a lot from him.
While talking to KU officials and local media, Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad appreciated the cooperation and close working relationship with the University of Karachi. He mentioned that the KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi and other representatives very actively participated in the HEC Pakistan initiatives and guidelines.
“The KU is a mother institution for many universities across the province and other cities too. Its graduates are serving the country at every level, and they are part of the decision-making platforms, and hold key positions at many reputable organizations. The visit of Karachi is truly incomplete without visiting the University of Karachi.”
The Chairman of HEC Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad shared that the KU VC Professor Dr Khalid Iraqi is one of the active and energetic vice chancellors and has rich experience not only in academics but also in the administration affairs.
He mentioned that good research and providing quality education are two main pillars for any university and the University of Karachi has established both of them and eagerly transforming new generation towards higher education.
According to Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad, like the University of Karachi, Punjab University, Peshawar University, University of Balochistan, Quaid-e-Azam University have played a major role in shaping society.
He added that their presence is felt and accepted at the international level which shows their commitment, dedication, and determination. He hoped that not only these universities but also others will work more to enhance their national and international presence.
Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad expressed that there is a need to change to mindset at the highest level so that all the goals can be achieved and problems of our societies can be resolved permanently. He believed that Pakistani universities can get better international ranking if they realize that it does matter and very important for the future of our young generation.
He hinted that the HEC Pakistan is considering some important changes in its previous decisions and it will take VCs of several public sector universities before making any conclusion.
The KU’s Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Professor Dr Muhammad Harris Shoaib shared that frequent changes in the HEC Pakistan policies are not good for Pakistani universities.
