Bucharest (HRNW)- A Romanian Air Force F-16 fighter jet has shot down a drone that entered the country’s airspace without authorization, marking the third consecutive day of such an incident.
According to media reports, Romania’s Ministry of Defence officially confirmed the incident, stating that it was the third unauthorized drone incursion within a few days, prompting the armed forces to maintain a heightened state of alert.
In an official statement, the ministry said the drone was safely intercepted and destroyed approximately 12 kilometers northeast of the city of Sulina, within Romania’s national airspace over the Black Sea territorial waters.
Romanian authorities said the repeated airspace violations have raised serious concerns about the security of NATO’s eastern flank. Officials emphasized that the country is strengthening its defense capabilities and surveillance measures to counter unauthorized aerial activity that could threaten military installations, civilian safety, and national security.
The latest incident comes amid growing regional security concerns, with Romania continuing to enhance the protection of its territorial waters and airspace.
