Beijing/Washington (HRNW)- China has openly opposed US President Donald Trump’s announcement regarding the possible blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, saying such actions would further escalate tensions in the region.
According to Chinese Defence Minister Dong Jun, China has important trade and energy agreements with Iran, which will be respected. He warned that China will protect its interests and expects other countries not to interfere in its strategic and economic engagements.
Admiral Dong Jun further stated that the Strait of Hormuz is under Iranian control and remains open for Chinese shipping, with vessels continuing to pass through the route as normal.
On the other hand, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in its statement that ensuring the safety, stability, and uninterrupted flow of this key waterway is in the shared interest of the international community. China reiterated its commitment to working with all parties to maintain energy supply stability.
China also described the recent US-Iran talks held in Islamabad as a positive development and expressed hope that all parties will adhere to the ceasefire and take meaningful steps to reduce tensions.
Meanwhile, Britain and Australia have also opposed any potential blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, while Turkey and Japan have called for a diplomatic resolution to the dispute.
According to experts, the Strait of Hormuz is a critical global oil shipping route, and any disruption could have severe consequences for the global economy and energy markets.
