Sindh Government Notifies Establishment of Dedicated Traffic Courts Across Province

KARACHI (HRNW): In a significant move to streamline judicial proceedings for transport violations, the Government of Sindh has officially issued a notification for the establishment of Traffic Courts throughout the province. This development follows a consultative process with the Sindh High Court and is aimed at accelerating the resolution of traffic-related legal cases.

Consumer Courts Granted Additional Jurisdiction

To ensure immediate operational status, the government has designated existing Consumer Courts in every district of the Karachi Division to act as Traffic Courts. Under this new mandate:

  • Dual Jurisdiction: These courts will maintain their current consumer protection duties while exercising additional powers to adjudicate traffic offenses.

  • Legal Framework: The decision has been implemented under the Provincial Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act 2025.

Expedited Legal Proceedings

The primary objective of this notification is to reduce the backlog of traffic-related litigation. By providing a dedicated judicial forum in every district, the provincial government aims to ensure that cases involving motor vehicle violations are handled swiftly and efficiently.

This move is expected to improve road discipline and the enforcement of traffic laws by ensuring that penalties and legal disputes are processed within a specialized legal framework rather than through the standard, overburdened criminal court system.
