LAHORE (HRNW): A staggering surge in stray dog attacks across Punjab has raised serious public health concerns, with official data revealing that 436,408 individuals were bitten within a span of just 22 months. The crisis, which spans from early 2024 to late 2025, highlights a growing struggle for provincial authorities to manage the stray dog population effectively.
According to a detailed provincial health report, 232,703 cases were recorded in 2024 alone. The trend continued into 2025, with 203,705 cases reported by October 2025. These figures indicate an alarming average of over 600 citizens falling victim to dog bites daily, which translates to approximately 25 people being attacked every hour across the province.
Public health experts are urging the provincial government to ensure the uninterrupted availability of the Anti-Rabies Vaccine (ARV) at all basic health units and tehsil headquarters. The rising frequency of these incidents has put immense pressure on the healthcare system, while citizens call for more proactive population control measures, such as mass vaccination and sterilization programs, to curb the threat in residential and commercial areas.
