Korangi Police Arrest Two Suspects for Circulating Counterfeit Currency

KARACHI (HRNW): The Korangi Police, East Zone, have successfully apprehended two suspects involved in a counterfeit currency racket during a targeted operation. The arrested individuals, identified as Muhammad Arbaz (son of Munawar Ali) and Muhammad Aqib (son of Muhammad Javed), were reportedly planning to flood the local markets with fake bills ahead of the upcoming Eid festivities.

During the raid, police recovered 26 counterfeit notes of 5,000-rupee denomination, totaling an estimated face value of 130,000 rupees. Two mobile phones were also seized from their possession. Preliminary investigations suggest the duo aimed to exploit the high volume of cash transactions typical of the Eid shopping season to circulate the forged notes.

A formal case (FIR No. 86/2026) has been registered against the suspects under Section 489-C of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), which pertains to the possession of forged or counterfeit currency notes. The suspects have been handed over to the Investigation Department to determine the source of the counterfeit bills and to check for prior criminal records. Police officials have urged shopkeepers and citizens to remain vigilant and verify high-value currency notes during transactions.
