Tehran (HRNW)- Iran’s official news agency IRNA has reported that the bodies of five members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) killed in recent joint US and Saudi airstrikes in Iraq have been returned to Iran.
According to IRNA, the bodies were transferred through the Mehran border crossing in Ilam Province, where they were received by the relevant Iranian authorities.
The report stated that the IRGC members were killed during this week’s joint US and Saudi military operations in Iraq. Iranian media did not immediately disclose the identities of the deceased or details regarding their funeral arrangements.
Meanwhile, the United States and Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday that their operations targeted armed groups affiliated with Iran in Iraq, maintaining that the strikes were conducted in response to recent attacks on Saudi Arabia and heightened military activity in the region.
Iran strongly condemned the airstrikes, describing them as a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Tehran said such actions would further escalate regional tensions and undermine efforts to promote peace and stability.
According to regional observers, the latest developments have raised concerns over a further escalation of tensions in the Middle East, with the ongoing confrontation between Iran, the United States and Saudi Arabia appearing to enter a new phase.
