Karachi (HRNW)- Serious allegations of corruption, mismanagement, and institutional conflict have surfaced within the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) over the control and operations of Bakra Mandis ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
According to sources, a power struggle is ongoing between local government officials, political figures, and administrative authorities over control of cattle markets, with claims of illegal fees, advance payments, and unauthorized allotments running into millions of rupees.
Reports suggest that multiple markets across Karachi have been leased or allocated under questionable circumstances, with alleged involvement of influential figures and irregularities in issuing NOCs and collecting municipal taxes.
It is further alleged that official tax rates under the Sindh Local Government Act are being exceeded, while additional unofficial charges are being imposed on traders and citizens. Concerns have also been raised about transparency in contracts, supervision of markets, and the role of various departments.
Sources claim that despite the large-scale economic activity—estimated in billions during Eid-ul-Azha—issues such as extortion, overcharging, and lack of regulation continue to persist at multiple levels.
Authorities have yet to issue a comprehensive response to these allegations, while public circles are demanding transparency, accountability, and strict action against those involved.
