Karachi (HRNW) – Citizens in Karachi were issued e-challans worth nearly Rs. 4 billion during the last 10 months, according to an announcement made by DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah during his address at the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The DIG Traffic stated that the amount collected through e-challans was higher than the taxes paid by retailers across Pakistan during the same period.
According to the traffic authorities, the e-challan system has been introduced to improve enforcement of traffic laws, monitor violations, and enhance road safety in the city.
However, citizens have expressed concerns over the increasing number of fines, arguing that heavy penalties should be accompanied by improvements in Karachi’s road infrastructure and traffic management system.
Many citizens criticized the condition of roads, saying that despite damaged infrastructure, poor road conditions, and traffic-related challenges, imposing high fines is creating additional difficulties for the public.
Citizens have demanded that alongside strict enforcement of traffic laws, authorities should also focus on road repairs, improving traffic flow, and providing better civic facilities.
