Karachi (HRNW)- The Sindh High Court heard a petition related to milk prices, adulteration, and the sealing of shops, during which the court made several significant observations on the matter.
During the hearing, the government lawyer requested additional time to submit a response. The petitioner’s counsel argued that the Commissioner Karachi has the authority to fix milk prices, and claimed that shops are being sealed under the pretext of cleanliness, requesting that such actions be halted until a final decision is made.
The court inquired from the petitioner’s lawyer whether he had ever personally purchased and consumed milk from local shops. The bench observed that milk adulteration is a common issue in Karachi and noted that differences in quality become evident when comparing buffalo milk.
The petitioner’s lawyer argued that improper pricing forces shopkeepers toward adulteration, adding that such practices can be detected through boiling the milk. The court, however, remarked that adulteration can also be identified through appearance and smell.
The hearing was later adjourned until May 5.
