Islamabad (HRNW)- The exceptional diplomacy of Pakistan’s top leadership, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, has averted a major Middle East crisis, leading to a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
According to reports, US President Donald Trump, following discussions with Pakistan’s leadership, agreed to suspend military operations for two weeks on the condition that Iran fully and safely opens the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its constructive role, confirming Iran’s willingness to halt operations in coordination with its armed forces.
The ceasefire paves the way for direct talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad starting April 10, 2026, with Pakistan acting as a mediator. Both leaders highlighted the importance of negotiations for lasting peace and stability in the region.
The announcement immediately impacted global markets: Brent crude fell by 15.9% to $92.30 per barrel, US crude dropped 16.5% to $93.80 per barrel, and Asia-Pacific stock markets surged, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 up 4.5% and South Korea’s Kospi up 5.5%.
US President Trump shared Iranian Foreign Minister Araqchi’s statement on social media, praising Pakistan’s role. Analysts say the ceasefire has provided relief to the global economy, though energy prices remain vulnerable if tensions resume.
