Supreme Court Reserves Verdict on PTI Founder’s Review Petitions in Defamation Case

Islamabad (HRNW)- A significant development has emerged in the defamation case involving the founder of PTI, Imran Khan, as the Supreme Court of Pakistan has reserved its decision on the review petitions.

It is worth noting that the trial court had earlier terminated the right of defense of PTI founder Imran Khan, a decision that was subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court.

Later, review petitions were filed by Imran Khan against the decision. These petitions were heard today by a three-member bench headed by Justice Ayesha Malik, after which the court reserved its verdict.

During the hearing, Ali Zafar, counsel for the PTI founder, argued that the right of defense cannot be terminated unless the claimant formally files an application. He informed the court that objections had been submitted on behalf of his client and that the court had also directed them to file a reply.

Lawyer Ali Zafar further stated that the objections were originally filed in March 2022, but were rejected by the trial court in October 2022. He said that the court had terminated their right of defense on the grounds that it was time-barred.

On this occasion, he requested the Supreme Court to restore the right of defense before the trial court, while opposing the arguments presented by the counsel for Shehbaz Sharif.
