ISLAMABAD (HRNW): In a high-level bureaucratic reshuffle, the Government of Pakistan has appointed Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh as the new Secretary of the Petroleum Division. A formal notification confirming his immediate appointment was issued today by the Establishment Division.
Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh is a senior Grade-22 officer with extensive experience in federal administration. Prior to this new assignment, he served as the Secretary of the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination. His transition to the Petroleum Division comes at a critical time as the country navigates an energy crisis triggered by regional instability in the Middle East and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
The new Secretary is expected to lead the ministry’s efforts in managing the national fuel supply chain, overseeing new oil and gas discoveries, and implementing the recently proposed weekly petroleum price review mechanism. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to bring seasoned administrative leadership to one of the most vital sectors of the economy during the current period of global energy volatility.
