ISLAMABAD (HRNW): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued formal notices to relevant authorities regarding a petition filed by PTI founder Imran Khan, seeking his immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital for specialized eye treatment. The division bench, comprising Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, presided over the hearing and sought a detailed response from the respondents.
Court Orders and Inquiry
The court has issued a notice to the District Election Commissioner Islamabad and directed the Superintendent of Adiala Jail to submit a comprehensive report detailing the exact duration of the sentence Imran Khan has served so far in the Toshakhana criminal case. During the proceedings, the bench addressed several administrative hurdles:
-
Removal of Objections: The court overthrew three of the five objections raised by the Registrar’s Office, while two remain under deliberation.
-
Notices to Law Officers: Notices were also issued to the Additional Attorney General and the Advocate General to address the remaining legal objections.
-
Preparation for Main Appeal: The Registrar’s Office has been instructed to assign a formal number to the miscellaneous application and fix it alongside the main appeal.
Timeline for Next Hearing
The bench expressed urgency regarding the preparation of the case documents, directing the Registrar’s Office to complete the “Paper Book” of the appeals before the next scheduled hearing. The court has set March 10, 2026, as the date to hear both the medical transfer plea and the central appeal against the Toshakhana conviction. Imran Khan’s legal team continues to argue that specialized care is essential due to significant vision concerns that cannot be adequately addressed within the prison’s medical facilities.
