Debate Intensifies in US Over Legality of Attack on Iran Amid Constitutional Concerns

Washington (HRNW)- After the US attack on Iran, the debate has intensified within the US as to whether the action was in accordance with the US Constitution and law or not. A sharp disagreement has emerged between the government and the opposition on the issue of not informing Congress in advance.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says that important US lawmakers were taken into confidence regarding the attack on Iran. According to him, he informed the top legislative group monitoring intelligence matters, the ‘Gang of Eight’ and the congressional leadership about the attack.

However, questions are being raised on this statement as well. Senator Mark Warner, a member of the ‘Gang of Eight’ and Democratic leader, has disagreed with the government’s position and said that there was no immediate threat to the US from Iran that would make the attack inevitable.

According to political observers, the debate in the US over the president’s war powers, the role of Congress and adherence to international law may intensify further in the coming days, while the possibility of formal hearings in Congress on this issue is also being expressed.
