Karachi (HRNW)- Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has said that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was presenting the party’s manifesto regarding Kashmir, but leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) began making allegations instead.
Addressing the media after laying the foundation stone of development works in the SITE Industrial Area, Murtaza Wahab said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has always upheld democratic values. He said that during the no-confidence movement against the former government, the PPP could have sought the office of the prime minister but instead supported the democratic principle that the party with the largest number of seats should form the government.
He announced the launch of a Rs2 billion infrastructure development project for the SITE Association, including the rehabilitation of roads, drainage systems, and other civic facilities. He said the Sindh government had provided the special package to improve facilities for the business community, and work on the project has now begun.
Murtaza Wahab said the funds have been placed at the disposal of the SITE Association to ensure transparency and speedy completion of the project. He emphasized that the business community plays a vital role in the country’s economy, and providing them with modern infrastructure is the government’s responsibility.
He added that the PPP, under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, is committed to resolving the issues of businessmen and citizens at their doorstep.
The Mayor thanked the Chief Minister of Sindh for approving a Rs9.2 billion development package for Karachi’s industrial zones, of which Rs2 billion has been allocated for the SITE Association project. He expressed confidence that although contractors had estimated six months for completion, the work would be finished within four months.
Murtaza Wahab also announced that the Pani Water Park project would soon be inaugurated under Bilawal Bhutto’s leadership. He said the facility would initially treat 35 million gallons of water per day (MGD), with capacity increasing by another 65 MGD by December. A pilot project to improve water supply in industrial areas will also be launched.
He further stated that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has allocated a Rs70 billion development budget, while a total of Rs300 billion has been earmarked for Karachi’s development. He said Rs13.5 billion has been allocated for the rehabilitation of 138 roads, with tenders to be issued shortly and work expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Speaking on the occasion, SITE Association President Zubair Motiwala thanked the Sindh government for the Rs2 billion project and said several other development schemes worth Rs5 billion were also underway in the SITE area. He appreciated Murtaza Wahab’s role in reducing the cess rate from 1.85 percent to 0.85 percent and said the Mayor had also pledged to work on the Karachi Bypass project and visit the SITE Association every month.
The ceremony was also addressed by Javed Balwani, Abdul Rehman Fida, and other representatives of the business community.
