Tehran (HRNW)- US President Donald Trump’s statement regarding Pope Leo is receiving global backlash. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Iranian President Masoud Peshkeshian have strongly condemned Trump’s statement. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called Trump’s statement unacceptable and said that Pope Leo’s talk of peace and condemnation of all kinds of war is a requirement of his position and religious responsibility, which should not be criticized.
On the other hand, Iranian President Masoud Peshkeshian said that he condemns the US President’s statement regarding Pope Leo on behalf of the Iranian nation. He said that religious leaders should not be insulted in this way and such statements are harmful to world peace.
In this regard, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf paid tribute to Pope Leo for criticizing Trump and appreciating his stance for ending war. He said, “Pope, thank you for showing this light, your words are a beacon for those who raise their voices against the killing of innocents.”
It should be noted that in response to President Trump’s criticism, Pope Leo had said that he had no fear. Meanwhile, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has also described President Trump’s increasingly unbalanced social media posts as regrettable. In an interview, she said that she is deeply saddened that America has such a shameful president, Trump has become completely unbalanced and this should be discussed seriously.
