BAHAWALPUR (HRNW): A major train accident has occurred near Bahawalpur involving the Tezgam Express, where the train split into two sections following a mechanical failure of the coupling hooks. According to eyewitnesses, the coupling connecting the bogies suddenly snapped while the train was in motion, causing the engine and the first seven bogies to pull away while the remaining rear carriages derailed and overturned.
The sudden derailment triggered scenes of chaos and panic among passengers, with cries for help heard across the crash site. Local residents immediately rushed to the scene to begin private rescue efforts, attempting to pull trapped passengers from the mangled wreckage of the overturned bogies. There are concerns regarding potential casualties as several passengers remain stuck inside the derailed coaches.
Emergency rescue teams and ambulances have been dispatched to the site by railway authorities and the district administration. Nearby hospitals in Bahawalpur have been placed on high alert to receive the injured, while rail traffic on the main line has been suspended as teams work to clear the tracks and provide medical assistance to the victims.
