Advisor Rana Sanaullah Signals Potential 28th Amendment Amid NFC Talks with PPP

LAHORE: (HRNW) Rana Sanaullah, the Advisor to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, has stated that negotiations are currently underway with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) regarding the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award. He indicated that if a consensus is reached, the government may introduce the 28th Constitutional Amendment within the current year.

Addressing the media in Lahore, Sanaullah clarified that no “two-and-a-half-year power-sharing formula” has been finalized with the PPP, despite ongoing rumors. He emphasized that the primary focus of the current dialogue remains the fiscal distribution framework.

Key Political Insights Shared:

  • Political Fragility: Sanaullah remarked that politicians remain weakened because they have failed to establish “rules of the game,” noting that political figures often act as their own worst enemies.

  • Leadership Choice: He asserted that had the PML-N secured a clear majority in the general elections, Nawaz Sharif would currently be serving as the Prime Minister.

  • Dialogue with PTI: The Advisor claimed that the PTI founder was offered a chance for dialogue as early as April 2023. He alleged that while the PTI founder seeks a “deal,” he prefers to negotiate directly with the establishment rather than political stakeholders.

  • Youth Sentiment: Sanaullah observed that while the youth may be frustrated with the current government’s performance, it does not necessarily mean they are aligned with the PTI’s agenda.
