LAHORE: (HRNW) Across the nation, March 23 is being celebrated with traditional fervor as Pakistan Day, a day dedicated to renewing the national pledge of allegiance. The day commenced with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and a 21-gun salute in all provincial capitals, followed by special prayers in mosques for the prosperity and security of the country.
This year, in light of the volatile situation in the Middle East and the government’s ongoing national austerity drive, celebrations are being observed with notable simplicity. The traditional military parade has been canceled, and central flag-hoisting ceremonies have been kept modest yet dignified.
In Lahore, a prestigious Change of Guards ceremony took place at the Mazar-e-Iqbal. A smartly turned-out contingent of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) assumed security duties at the mausoleum, taking over from the Sutlej Rangers. The Chief Guest of the ceremony was Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Shahid Afzal, Air Officer Commanding PAF Airmen Academy Korangi Creek. He laid a floral wreath at the tomb, offered Fateha, and recorded his impressions in the visitor’s book, highlighting the historical significance of the day in strengthening national resolve.
