Karachi Police Set December 5 Deadline for Fixing Vehicle Number Plates; Strict Action to Follow

Karachi (HRNW) Karachi Police have given citizens a deadline of December 5, 2025 to correctly fix and display legal and readable number plates on their vehicles and motorcycles. After the deadline, strict and indiscriminate action will be taken against violators.

According to HRNW News, authorities will now crack down on vehicles carrying fake, illegal, tampered, or unrecognizable number plates. Police have warned that vehicles and motorcycles not complying with the rules will be seized.

A spokesperson for Karachi Police stated that Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho has issued firm orders to begin action across the city. Citizens are advised to ensure their number plates comply with legal standards before the deadline.

SHO Orangi Town, Inspector Muhammad Yousuf Mehr, said the police will strictly implement the new directions. Snap checking will be carried out at all police stations, and number plates of vehicles and motorcycles will be inspected for authenticity.

Police also noted that, following the implementation of the e-challan system, many motorists have intentionally removed or hidden number plates to avoid fines. Others display incomplete or incorrect digits.

During checking, police will verify:

Vehicle documents

Engine and chassis numbers via the online portal or CPLC

Rider identity through biometric verification

Criminal records, if any

If a vehicle is found stolen, the rider will be arrested. Vehicles with suspicious or unidentified number plates will be seized under Section 550. Even if the vehicle is clear but the rider has a criminal record, legal action will still follow.

The campaign officially begins on December 6, and Karachi Police say the crackdown will help curb vehicle theft and strengthen law and order in the city.
