IHC Orders New Medical Board for Imran Khan’s Medical Examination

ISLAMABAD (HRNW): The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued an order to constitute a new medical board to conduct a comprehensive medical examination of the incarcerated PTI founder, Imran Khan. A division bench, comprising Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, presided over the hearing on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

The court has disposed of the petition after directing the Islamabad Chief Commissioner, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, to form the board, specifically ordering the inclusion of Dr. Muhammad Arif and Dr. Nadeem Qureshi. The court emphasized that the examination must be carried out in accordance with standard medical protocols and prison rules to ensure a transparent assessment of the former Prime Minister’s health, particularly concerning his ongoing eye ailment.

Furthermore, the bench instructed the authorities to ensure that Imran Khan’s family is kept fully informed of the medical proceedings, as per Rule 795 of the Pakistan Prison Rules. The court also directed lawyers to facilitate meetings between the family and the PTI founder, while Dr. Nadeem Qureshi was tasked with maintaining regular contact with the family regarding the treatment plan. While the defense had requested a transfer to Shifa International Hospital, the court maintained that the medical board would first submit its report to the Chief Commissioner to determine if a hospital transfer is necessary.
