KARACHI: (HRNW) The Karachi Police have conducted a targeted operation in the Azizabad area, resulting in the arrest of eight individuals, six of whom were allegedly operating as fake journalists. According to police officials, these imposters would frequently visit shops and street stalls in various neighborhoods, harassing small business owners and vendors under the guise of “media coverage.”
The incident unfolded when the suspects entered a shop in Azizabad, claiming to be reporting on a story. A heated dispute broke out between the shopkeepers and the group, leading to a police intervention. Upon being taken to the police station for questioning, it was discovered that the suspects were running a fraudulent web-based news platform to provide a cover for their extortion activities.
Police have identified the ringleader of the group as a man named Tauseef. The eight arrested individuals include the six fake journalists and the two shopkeepers involved in the brawl. A formal case has been registered at the Azizabad Police Station against the suspects, identified as Tauseef, Shahab, Rehan, Nadeem, Ehtisham, Javed, Adnan, and Adnan Salamat.
Upholding the integrity of the press and exposing those who exploit the profession for criminal gain is essential for a healthy society.
