Sindh High Court Implements Four-Day Work Week and Deep Fuel Cuts Amid Energy Crisis

KARACHI: (HRNW) In a decisive move to address the escalating energy crisis, the Sindh High Court (SHC) has announced a series of austerity measures aimed at conserving national resources. According to a recently issued circular, the SHC Principal Seat in Karachi and its Circuit Benches will now observe a four-day working week, operating from Monday to Thursday. This change is part of a broader judicial strategy to reduce operational costs and fuel consumption during the current economic volatility.

To further tighten expenditures, the court has slashed the petroleum quota for High Court judges by 50%, while officers in Grade 17 and above will see a 25% reduction in their fuel allowances. While the High Court shifts its schedule, District Courts will continue to operate five days a week; however, on Fridays, they will only hear urgent matters such as bail applications and stay orders. The judiciary has also been directed to prioritize and promote the use of video-link facilities for case hearings wherever possible to minimize travel for both legal professionals and litigants.
