ISLAMABAD (HRNW): The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a fresh increase in electricity tariffs across the country, including Karachi, as part of its second-quarterly adjustment for the current fiscal year. The decision will impose an additional financial burden of over 8.67 billion rupees on consumers nationwide.
According to the determination issued by the regulator, the power tariff has been raised by 35 paisa per unit. This hike is specifically related to adjustments for the October–December 2025 quarter and will be applicable for a period of three months, spanning from March to May 2026. The revised rates will apply to consumers of all power distribution companies (DISCOs) as well as K-Electric.
NEPRA has forwarded the decision to the federal government for final notification. This follows a previous quarterly adjustment for July–September 2025, where prices were increased by 33 paisa per unit. Officials stated that the adjustment is necessary to account for variations in capacity charges and operational maintenance costs. However, lifeline consumers (those with low consumption) are expected to remain exempt from this latest price hike.
