LAHORE (HRNW) – Under the approval of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the province has launched its first-ever free ambulance service dedicated to transporting deceased persons from hospitals to their homes.
This landmark initiative aims to provide relief and dignity to grieving families during their most difficult times. Key highlights of the project include:
-
Provincial Coverage: A comprehensive plan has been ordered to establish official vehicle services in all major government hospitals and every tehsil across Punjab.
-
Guaranteed Availability: Each tehsil in the province will be equipped with at least one dedicated van for transporting the deceased.
-
Easy Access: Bereaved families can access this free service by dialing 1122 or by visiting the dedicated service counters at government hospitals.
-
Inter-City Transport: The service also covers the free transfer of the deceased from a hospital to another city.
-
Smart Monitoring: To ensure efficiency and transparency, the transport service will be monitored through a centralized Smart Management System.
During a special briefing chaired by the Chief Minister, Secretary of Emergency Services Dr. Rizwan Naseer detailed the operational framework. The meeting also discussed proposals to regulate private ambulance services and standardize their rates to prevent overcharging.
This initiative marks a significant step toward improving social welfare and ensuring that citizens receive state support during funeral logistics.
