Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi Highlights Major Upgrades, Strict Rules on Illness Excuses and ML-1/ML-2 Projects

Rawalpindi (HRNW) – Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi spoke to the media during the inauguration of platforms 4 and 5 at Rawalpindi Railway Station, emphasizing strict rules against using illness as an excuse to avoid punishments, while highlighting major upgrades and future projects for Pakistan Railways.

Minister Abbasi said that officers assigned targets must meet deadlines by June 30 or lose their positions. He detailed ongoing and upcoming projects including the ML-1 upgrade from Karachi to Rohri, set to start with $2 billion funding by the Asian Bank, and the ML-2 project with $2.5 billion investment with NLC and DP World support. Plans include modernizing all stations, introducing smart digital systems, expanding freight operations, launching the People’s Train in Quetta, and promoting tourism via the Safari Train in Thar.

The Railway Minister also addressed challenges in hospital facilities, ticket availability, freight services, and safety measures, stating that all trains will be upgraded by December 2026 and railway fares will remain low.
