Islamabad (HRNW)- Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MW) leader and PTI-backed Senator Raja Nasir Abbas has been appointed as the opposition leader in the upper house. Senate Secretary Hafeezullah Sheikh issued the notification of the opposition leader, while Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani said that 22 out of 32 opposition members supported him.
Government and opposition members in the house congratulated him on being appointed as the opposition leader. In his first speech, Raja Nasir Abbas said that the only solution to the political crisis is the release of the PTI founder and that matters cannot be progressed by keeping him in jail. He also demanded the general release of political prisoners and said that he would appreciate the good steps of the government, but would never support injustice.
PML-N Senator Rana Sanaullah said that the government and the opposition should sit together and talk for the betterment of the future by forgetting the mistakes of the past and save Pakistan from a crisis like the Long March. Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar said that there is no restriction on admission of Baloch students in Punjab universities and the quota has been fully restored.
During this time, the Senate also enacted important and historic legislation:

Reproductive Health Bill passed, under which reproductive health education will be included in the curriculum of children above 14 years of age.
The National Tariff Commission and Export Development Fund Amendment Bill was also unanimously passed, with no opposition from the opposition.
