Rawalakot (HRNW)- A Rangers soldier was martyred and three police officers were injured during clashes and firing allegedly involving activists of the banned Joint Public Action Committee following the successful completion of elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
According to police, members of the banned organization attempted to march toward Rawalakot and allegedly opened fire after being stopped by law enforcement personnel, injuring two police officers.
According to the latest reports, the banned Joint Public Action Committee allegedly attacked a security checkpoint on the outskirts of Rawalakot, resulting in the martyrdom of Rangers soldier Ali Raza.
Authorities said that three police officers were injured during the violence, while protesters allegedly set fire to one Rangers vehicle and one police vehicle.
Rawalakot police stated that law enforcement agencies exercised maximum restraint and acted with professionalism despite what they described as severe provocation.
According to the police statement, the banned Joint Public Action Committee allegedly resorted to violence, arson, and attacks on law enforcement personnel, government officials, and public property in an attempt to disrupt the successful election process.
Police said the rule of law would be upheld at all costs and that those involved in violence, arson, and attacks on security personnel would be brought to justice. Authorities added that security forces remain committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens, maintaining peace and order, and safeguarding the democratic process.
The statement also urged the public to avoid rumors and misleading information and to rely only on verified and official sources.
