Karachi (HRNW) – The Sindh Cabinet has approved the acceleration of construction work on the Karachi BRT Red Line Lot 2 project during a meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah at the CM House.
The cabinet approved an important summary of the Transport and Mass Transit Department and decided to terminate the previous joint venture agreement due to delays in development work and poor performance. The old contract was officially canceled, while the project was handed over to the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) on an emergency basis.
According to officials, the FWO has been awarded the work through a direct contract and G2G arrangement. The BRT Red Line Lot 2 project includes a 12.85-kilometer stretch from Numaish Chowrangi to Mosamiyat.
The Sindh Chief Minister directed authorities to complete construction work on University Road within 90 days and ordered the early completion of mixed traffic lanes. He also instructed officials to speed up work on underpasses, elevated structures and drainage systems.
The provincial cabinet further approved emergency off-budget funding for Trans Karachi. Officials informed the meeting that the FWO has already deployed staff and heavy machinery at the project site.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said immediate steps are necessary to restore Karachi’s main highway infrastructure, adding that the completion of the BRT Red Line project will significantly reduce traffic congestion in the city.
