Severe Load-Shedding in Karachi Draws Condemnation from Insaf Lawyers Forum

Karachi (HRNW): A leader of the Insaf Lawyers Forum Karachi and prominent legal practitioner, Hasnain Ali Chauhan, has strongly condemned the worsening load-shedding and power crisis in the city, terming it a grave violation of fundamental human rights.

In a statement, he said that depriving Karachi’s residents of electricity for up to 18 hours amid extreme heat was unacceptable and amounted to blatant injustice. He added that prolonged outages in several areas including Surjani Town, Baldia Town, Lyari, Korangi, Liaquatabad Town and Gulberg Town had made life miserable for citizens.

Mr Chauhan noted that women, children and the elderly were facing severe hardship due to the unavailability of electricity during intense heat, while business activities were also being badly affected.

Criticising K-Electric, he said the failure in power generation and transmission reflected sheer incompetence. He warned that the electricity shortfall exceeding 500 megawatts could further aggravate the situation if immediate and effective measures were not taken.

He urged the federal and provincial governments to take immediate notice of the situation, provide relief to the citizens of Karachi, end unannounced load-shedding, and ensure uninterrupted power supply.

Mr Chauhan further warned that if the crisis was not resolved promptly, the Insaf Lawyers Forum would be compelled to initiate legal action as well as public protest.
