Karachi, Pakistan (HRNW) — A major crisis was averted in Karachi’s healthcare supply chain today after the Katchi Gali medicine market, the largest wholesale drug hub in the city, was abruptly sealed by Assistant Commissioner Hazim Bangwar. Advocate Muhammad Nawaz expressed grave concern over the move, stating that this market serves as the primary supply artery for medicines across the entirety of Pakistan. He questioned the legality of the action, describing it as “the law of the jungle” and warning that such a disruption in the delivery of life-saving drugs could lead to severe medical shortages and public distress.
Responding to the burgeoning outcry, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) South took immediate notice of the complaints and ordered the market to be unsealed without delay. The DC South clarified that he was not consulted prior to the action and stated firmly that he would never have authorized such a move given its critical impact on public health logistics. The market has since resumed operations, but the incident has sparked a heated debate regarding the administrative protocols governing essential service hubs in the metropolitan city.
