Eid-ul-Fitr Crackdown: Sharjeel Inam Memon Orders Action Against Excessive Transport Fares

KARACHI (HRNW): Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, has issued strict directives to launch a province-wide campaign against transporters charging exorbitant fares ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. The Minister has instructed the IG Sindh, Divisional Commissioners, DIG Motorway Police, Deputy Commissioners, and Chairmen of District Regional Transport Authority (DRTA) boards to take immediate and indiscriminate action against violators.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the self-imposed fare hikes by certain transporters place an undue financial burden on commuters traveling to their hometowns for the holidays. He emphasized that it is the fundamental responsibility of relevant departments to ensure public facilitation and prevent any unauthorized increase in travel costs. All officers have been mandated to remain active in the field within their respective jurisdictions and penalize transporters found overcharging passengers.

Furthermore, the Minister has directed that daily progress reports regarding these operations be submitted to the Transport Department. He reaffirmed that the government’s top priority is to provide safe, easy, and affordable travel at government-notified rates. Relevant authorities have been told to address public complaints immediately to ensure that citizens do not face financial exploitation during the festive season.
