Burewala Police Bust Social Media “Honey-Trap” Gang; Four Arrested for Blackmail and Kidnapping

BUREWALA (HRNW): The Saddar Burewala Police have successfully dismantled a four-member criminal gang specializing in “honey-trapping” and blackmailing citizens through social media. The timely operation resulted in the arrest of key suspects and the safe recovery of a kidnapped youth.

According to police reports, the gang targeted 23-year-old Arsalan, a resident of Burewala, by using female members to contact him on social media platforms. After establishing a rapport, the suspects lured him to a meeting where they recorded compromising videos of him. The gang then threatened to leak the footage online, demanding a ransom of 3 million PKR from Arsalan and his family.

Upon receiving the information, Saddar Burewala Police registered an FIR and utilized advanced technical surveillance to track the perpetrators. The arrested suspects have been identified as Sabir Hussain (337 EB), Farooq (351 EB), Ayesha (517 EB), and Asia (originally from Gujranwala). During the operation, the police also successfully rescued Arsalan from their custody.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the organized ring consists of a total of nine members who specifically target young men on Facebook and other platforms through video calls and friendship requests. A manhunt is currently underway to arrest the remaining five accomplices. Police officials have urged the public to exercise caution when interacting with strangers online and reaffirmed that elements involved in such heinous cyber-crimes will face the full force of the law.
