Tel Aviv / South Lebanon (HRNW)- Israeli Army Chief General Eyal Zamir has said that Israeli forces will not withdraw from the occupied areas of southern Lebanon until Israel’s long-term security is fully ensured, warning that military operations could be expanded if necessary.
According to the Israeli military, General Eyal Zamir visited Israeli-controlled positions in southern Lebanon, where he met with troops and reviewed the prevailing security situation.
During the visit, he said the Israeli army has established control over several areas in southern Lebanon and is continuing operations to dismantle what it described as military infrastructure and installations.
Eyal Zamir stated that if Israel’s security requirements demand it, the military is prepared to expand its operations into additional areas. He added that Israeli forces will remain in the occupied territories until they are confident that no future threat to Israel’s security exists.
His remarks come amid continuing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border, where intermittent clashes and military activity have been reported in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, Lebanon and several regional actors have continued to object to Israel’s military presence in southern Lebanon, urging the international community to intervene and prevent further escalation.
Political and military analysts say the latest statement by the Israeli army chief suggests that tensions in southern Lebanon are unlikely to ease in the near future and that the security situation could become even more complicated in the coming days.
