Peshawar (HRNW)- The Accountability Court has rejected the bail application of Qaiser Iqbal, the principal accused in the Kohistan corruption scandal, on medical grounds.
The case was heard by Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Zafar. During the proceedings, the petitioner’s lawyer argued that the accused is suffering from diabetes, heart disease and other medical conditions, requiring treatment by senior specialists. The lawyer requested the court to grant bail to enable the accused to receive appropriate medical care.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor opposed the request, stating that Qaiser Iqbal is the main accused in the Rs36 billion Kohistan mega corruption scandal and faces allegations involving Rs14 billion in corruption. The prosecutor further argued that medical reports do not support claims that the accused suffers from kidney, heart or diabetes-related illnesses and informed the court that he is already receiving treatment at Lady Reading Hospital.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the Accountability Court rejected Qaiser Iqbal’s bail application.
